So I've been back for a little while. Happy New Years. I'm a bit late, but eh. I always feel like the new year sneaks up on me, before I'm ready. I ain't down with that.
But whatever. 2009's here.
That's the IFC building. Tallest building in HK. Oh and it was the building that Batman broke into, grabbed that one asian dude(I forget his name), and jumped out and escaped with a plane. Yeah.
Man, I was only there two weeks or so, but I experienced so much. It was crazy. Maybe I should have kept a journal for each day, because now it's all too overwhelming to try and document, after the fact.
I feel so fobby now. Haha. At least my Cantonese is a bit better. I would love to study abroad in HK or China, just so I would be forced to speak it all the time, and maybe lose my ABC-ness.
It was funny though. When I was in Beijing, and at a mall/complex/market thing, one of the vendors, or actually, all of them were trying to get my attention to buy stuff. And when I was forced to stop at one, because my mom was looking at something, the vendor next to it, started speaking Mandarin to me. Since I don't speak a lick of Mando, I was lost, and she knew it. When she found out I was American, she immediately started inquiring about it.
"Oh, you like Obama?"
"How do you like America?"
"Do you like your American friends?"
I wasn't really in the conversing mood, since I was expecting that everyone just wanted me to buy something. But something about her sincere curiosity, made me think that it was her just being nice. Or maybe I'm just being stupid because it was a pretty girl.
I love that Americans are getting their rep back. Even if Obama isn't our savior, he's done way better than Bush has for us, and he's not even freakin' president yet.
Yeah. I came back pretty Asian. I got a haircut at a place recommended by my cousin in Hong Kong called, "Moca Hair", and I have to say, it is the greatest haircut I have ever had. They shampooed my hair! It was more like a massage. Then they blowdried, and the guy, just with a pair of scissors, just went to town on my hair. Skill. Too bad my hair wasn't long enough for anything drastic, but I like it. I'd like to grow my bangs out a little more. It actually doesn't look very different if I don't gel it. But once I do. F-O-B. haha. I wish I could gel it the way the hairstylist did. I have no idea how he did it! maybe it was all the preparation beforehand. oh well.
And I pretty much updated my wardrobe. My favorite, are my new jeans. They look so good.
Damn this is pretty vain, and stupid. but whatever.
The jeans I got were HK$360. Yeah. Not very cheap. These were good ones. Oh yeah. 1 USD = 7 HKD. So they were about 50 something dollars. But WAIT. I got it in a buy 1 get 1 free sale! NICE.
Yeah. Contrary to some belief, not everything is super cheap in HK. The really cheap stuff is the street markets, but there are a ton of actual stores, like Nike, Adidas, Levis, Gucci, etc. Yeah.
It can get expensive.
But I love the city.
It reminds me so much of New York. Parts of it look so much like Times Square, with the lights, billboards. But then there's all those neon signs. Asians love neon signs. haha.
I actually hate to compare it to any other city, because really, it's a city of its own.
I think I'm getting a little sick again. Which sucks. I got pretty sick on the trip. I was miserable for like 2 days, and my dad had to take me back and take care of me. Thanks bahbah.
So to make up for it, here's a cool story I came across.
"There once was a court jester who was known throughout the kingdom as a very smart, clever, and funny man. He had a knack for choosing the right jokes at the right time and was one of the only people who could make the king laugh. One day, however, the jester went too far and insulted the king in such a way that the joke was deemed to have treasonous intent and was therefore punishable by death. The king, feeling compassion for the jester, told him that he could choose the way he would die. Many people, without thinking, would have chosen a quick and painless death. The jester, however, had been practicing making choices his entire life. He paused to think for a moment and then replied, “I choose death by old age.”
You always have a choice."
I seem to get a lot of random hits to this page, from all over too. Different parts of the country, different countries, even different CONTINENTS. I think it might be when I put a link on my profile on the wong fu blog.
I feel sorry for the people who click it out of curiousity and just get to my babbling crap. Oh well.
Maybe some random person, who's going through some stuff, will read the story and be inspired. or something.
I'm out.
(Btw, did ya notice anything weird about the picture of my new fobbiness? Look again.
The secret is, I photoshopped the right half(my left). Because I took the picture in a mirror, but I hate how "myspace" mirrorshots look, I just copied the left side, and covered the right. The graphic on my shirt got a little distorted, but whatever. That's also why I had to erase the bottom right part. haha. So yeah. if you noticed things looked a little too symmetrical, there you go.
Don't lie. you didnt' notice did you. haha.)
